Sidney Machado, the popular Chopp, one of the most experienced and victorious directors of Carnival Harmony, will not be part of the commission that runs the segment in Portela for Carnaval 2021.

After four parades at Azul e Branco, Chopp said goodbye, this Friday (20), publishing an open letter on social networks, in which he says he had the “honor of defending the Oswaldo Cruz and Madureira pavilion”.

In the text, the sambista also informs that “the time has come to put the eagle's wings on his shoulders and take off”. In the final part of the message, in addition to thanking everyone in the association for the partnership, Chopp points out that he is “sure of his duty accomplished”.

President Luis Carlos Magalhães made a point of revering the veteran sambista. “Chopp is samba. And Portela and samba will always be together ”, he said.
